Byers, Texas
About 27 miles north of Henrietta, Byers is a charming small town with a population of nearly 500 residents (source: U.S. Census Bureau). The community was established in 1887 with the arrival of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway.
Highway 79, Byers’ main street, is lined with historical homes reflecting its rich past. Byers holds an annual Christmas Parade that draws attendees from the surrounding communities. This tradition includes a procession of beautifully lit floats, local school bands, and ends with a festive community gathering.
One interesting fact about Byers is its close proximity to the Red River, which provides opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, bird watching, and boating.
To drive to Skelton’s Shop in Henrietta, start from the center of Byers and head south on FM 1759. Turn right onto State Hwy 148 S, and continue for about 25 miles to Henrietta. Once in Henrietta, turn left onto E Omega St, then right onto N Bridge St. Take a left onto E Wichita St. and you’ll find Skelton’s Shop on the right.
